May 6. 2019 – Martin Truex Jr. came from the rear of the field to lead 132 laps and win the Gander RV 400 at Dover International Speedway. Truex won for the third time at Dover and the second time on a Monday after rain postponed the race. The last time Truex won on Monday was in 2007 when he scored his first career win. He had to start from the rear of the field after his car failed pre-race inspection twice.
May 6, 2018 – Kevin Harvick swept all stages to score the win in the AAA 400 Drive for Autism 400 at Dover International Speedway for his fourth victory of the season. Harvick led 201 laps to cruise to his 41st career win. The last time a driver had four wins in the first 11 races of a season was Jimmie Johnson in 2007. Led by Harvick, Stewart-Haas Racing put three of its drivers in the top five for the first time in the organization’s history.
May 6, 2017 – Aric Almirola scored the win in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Sparks Energy 300 at Talladega Superspeedway. Almirola had to fight off a hard-charging Elliott Sadler and Joey Logano on the final lap to score his third career series win. His last victory came in July of 2016 at Daytona. A torrid battle for the top spot on the last lap saw Bubba Wallace and Ryan Sieg both spin behind the leaders. NASCAR did not display the caution flag and the race back to the line was on. At the checkered flag it was Almirola ahead to score the win.
May 6, 2016 – William Byron captured his first career NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series win in a wild overtime finish to the Toyota Tundra 250 at Kansas Speedway. The Kyle Busch Motorsports driver earned win No. 1 in only his fifth career start. Byron was able to survive the wild last lap of overtime that looked as if Johnny Sauter and Ben Rhodes were going to decide the winner until they made contact in Turn 4. That left the door open for Byron to charge by and score the victory.
May 6, 2012 – Brad Keselowski scored his second Talladega Superspeedway win after he took the checkered flag in NASCAR Cup Series Aaron’s 499. Keselowski got a push from Kyle Busch on a green-white-checkered restart and pulled away to take his second win of the season. Keselowski, who was driving for Team Penske, gave Dodge its first Talladega win since Dave Marcis went to Victory Lane in 1976. Matt Kenseth had the lead when the field took the final green flag but when he hooked up with Roush Fenway Racing teammate Greg Biffle, but Keselowski rocketed to the front of the field with the help from Busch. From there Keselowski maintained the advantage and he captured another Talladega win to go along with his 2009 victory.
May 6, 2011 – Kyle Busch scratched Darlington Raceway off the list of tracks where he’s yet to score a win at in the NASCAR Xfinity (Nationwide) Series when he picked up the checkered flag in the Royal Purple 200. Busch survived an encounter with the wall to come back and score his 48th career series victory and his first at the “Track Too Tough to Tame.” It was also Busch’s fifth win of the season.
May 6, 2007 – Jimmie Johnson held off his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Busch to score his fourth NASCAR Cup win of the season in the rain-delayed Crown Royal Presents the Jim Stewart 400 at Richmond Raceway. Earnhardt Jr. took the lead from Kyle Busch with 50 laps to go and went on to score his first win since Chicagoland in July, 2005. It was his 17th career Cup Series win. Rookie Denny Hamlin thrilled his hometown crowd with a runner-up finish followed by Kevin Harvick, Greg Biffle and Busch. Harvick had the dominant car but a decision to not pit for tires under caution with 119 laps to go came back to cost him a possible sweep of the weekend.
May 6, 2005 – Matt Kenseth led 50 laps on his way to Victory Lane in the NASCAR Xfinity (Busch) Series Diamond Hill Plywood 200 at Darlington Raceway after starting from the 24th position. He relinquished the lead only twice during caution flag pit stops, but was quickly able to move back toward the front once the green flag flew.
May 6, 2000 – Dale Earnhardt Jr. made quick work of a duel with his father, passing him with 31 laps to go in the Pontiac Excitement 400 at Richmond Raceway and holding on to become the first repeat winner that season. Earnhardt Jr., who also won at Texas a month prior, passed his father on the inside heading into Turn 3 two laps after they emerged from pit stops under caution nose-to-tail. Earnhardt Jr. led the final 31 laps and won the race over Terry Labonte. Tony Stewart led 34 laps up until Mark Martin slammed into the Turn 4 wall on Lap 363 to bring out the ninth caution and sending the leaders to the pits. After getting service, Stewart was on his way out of his stall when Earnhardt Jr. made contact the back of his car. The collision flattened Stewart’s left-rear tire, forcing him to pit again and dropping him to 22nd and out of contention. Earnhardt Sr., who took two tires on the final stop, finished 10th and Stewart rallied to finish eighth. Rusty Wallace led the most laps (227) and finished fifth.
