April 24, 2017 – Jimmie Johnson scored his second consecutive win of season when he took the checkered flag in the rain-delayed Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Johnson followed up his win at Texas Motor Speedway with his 82nd career NASCAR Cup Series win, which was his second at Bristol. Johnson had to race hard for the top spot in a torrid battle that saw him fight off Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano and others with multiple lines being used by each driver. Once Johnson did wrestle the top spot away with 21 to go, he did pull away to a relatively comfortable advantage to take the checkered flag over Clint Bowyer.
April 24, 2016 – Carl Edwards bumped his teammate Kyle Busch out of the way in the final turn to win his second straight race in the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway. Edwards followed his Bristol win the previous week with a thrilling victory. He applied just enough of a bump to the rear of Busch’s car to loosen up his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate and then raced past him for the win. It was Edwards’ 27th career NASCAR Cup Series win.
April 24, 2015 – Denny Hamlin won the NASCAR Xfinity Series ToyotaCare 250 at Richmond Raceway in dominating fashion, leading 248 of 250 laps to give Toyota its 100th series win.
April 24, 2004 – Martin Truex Jr. led a 1-2 finish for Chance 2 Motorsports in the NASCAR Xfinity (Busch) Series Aaron’s 312 at Talladega Superspeedway. Truex, led 29 laps and took the checkered flag under caution ahead of teammate and car owner Dale Earnhardt Jr.
April 24, 1999 – Terry Labonte edged Joe Nemechek to win the Touchstone Energy 300 at Talladega Superspeedway, which currently is tied for the second closest finish in NASCAR Xfinity Series history since electronic scoring was implemented. Labonte took the lead for the third and final time on the final circuit as he raced Nemechek side-by-side coming to the finsh. A twenty-three car accident took place on Lap 68 that started when Ken Schrader got turned around.
April 24, 1994 – Rusty Wallace recorded his first of three consecutive wins at Martinsville Speedway with a dominating performance in the Hanes 500. Wallace led 317 laps from the pole, including the final 67, and took the checkered flag ahead of Ernie Irvan, who led 76 laps.
April 24, 1988 – Dale Earnhardt led the final 182 laps to win the Pannill Sweatshirts 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Earnhardt took the win by 1.9 seconds over Sterling Marlin, who led 101 laps. Harry Gant led 167 laps, but fell out of the race while leading with an engine issue.
