April 23, 2016 – Dale Earnhardt Jr. scored an overtime win in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Toyota Care 250 at Richmond Raceway. Earnhardt Jr. dominated the race but was forced to make the winning move on the final restart of the day, holding off Ty Dillon to score his first series win of 2016. It was his 24th career series victory but his first as a driver for his JR Motorsports team. He led 128 laps on his way to Victory Lane. Dillon finished second and claimed the $100,000 Dash 4 Cash bonus.
April 23, 2011 – Carl Edwards charged to the lead early and never looked back on his way to winning the NASCAR Xfinity (Nationwide) Series Nashville 300 at Nashville Superspeedway. Edwards scored his 31st career win to tie Jack Ingram for fourth on the all-time series win list. Edwards, who led 148 of the 225 laps, battled Kyle Busch throughout the afternoon and finally took the lead for good with 35 laps to go and drove his Mustang to the checkered flag.
April 23, 2005 – Kurt Busch scored his first win of the season with a dominating performance in the Subway Fresh 500 at Phoenix Raceway. Busch, who led 219 laps on his way to his 12th career NASCAR Cup Series win, had to hold off a hard charging Michael Waltrip to the checkered flag. Waltrip banged his Chevrolet off the wall twice in a futile effort to run down Busch for the win, but had to settle for second, his first top-five finish since Sonoma the previous season. Busch’s margin of victory was 2.315 seconds in his first win since Loudon in September of 2004.
April 23, 1995 – Rusty Wallace won his third straight race at Martinsville Speedway in the Hanes 500. The race was cut short to 356 laps due to darkness after the race was delayed by rain twice. Wallace, who led 175 laps, got by Jeff Gordon with 50 to go and then went on to take the checkered flag in the shortened race. Ted Musgrave got by Gordon late in the race and finished second. Gordon wound up third.
April 23, 1989 – Darrell Waltrip led 158 laps, including the final 52, to win the Pannill Sweatshirts 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Waltrip win the final race for the older Chevrolet Monte Carlo body as the manufacturer rolled out the Lumina the next week at Talladega. Dale Earnhardt finished second, 6.8 seconds behind after leading 103 laps. Geoffrey Bodine led the opening 117 laps from the pole, but got damage trying to make his way through a multi-car crash.
