Timothy Peters is back at Talladega Superspeedway but this time around, he’ll be making his debut in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.
Peters, a two-time winner at the 2.66-mile superspeedway in the Camping World Truck Series, will be driving the No. 92 Ricky Benton Racing Ford in Sunday’s GEICO 500. The opportunity to compete at Talladega came after Peters raced for RBR last month in the Truck Series at Martinsville Speedway, where he finished seventh.
“I’ve known Ricky a long time,” Peters said. “It just worked out to where the opportunity presented itself. I love Talladega and have had a lot of success there with the trucks. I hope that experience will parlay into Sunday’s race.”

Along with his two wins in the Truck Series, Peters has led 72 laps and posted an average finish of 10.0 in eight starts. He also won the Truck Series race at Daytona International Speedway in 2010.
“I like a challenge and I know this week has the challenge meter pegged,” Peters said. “It’s a physically and mentally demanding race. Speedway racing has always complemented my style.”
This weekend’s race will be the second Cup Series start for RBR following the season-opening Daytona 500, where David Gilliland finished 14th.
“David had some commitments and couldn’t go to Talladega,” Peters said. “I’m thankful for the opportunity and who knows? Maybe after this, there may be more to come. Right now, we want to focus on completing 500 miles with a great finish.”
Motor Racing Network – “The Voice of NASCAR” will have live coverage of Sunday’s GEICO 500, beginning at 1 p.m. (ET) – with live streaming at MRN.com.
