Driver Notes – Ordered by Average Finish (Top 15) in the Last Five Races at Texas
Kevin Harvick has finished in the top 10 in the last 10 races at Texas, including wins in the 2017 and 2018 fall races on the track’s current configuration. Harvick leads all drivers with 379 laps led in the five races since the track was repaved and reconfigured. Excluding Talladega, Harvick leads all drivers with a 3.4 average finish in the last five races this season with the 550 horsepower rules package.
Joey Logano finished 17th in the spring after winning Stage 1 at Texas. An uncontrolled tire on a pit stop and a collapsing hood at speed hindered his finish, which was his first outside the top 10 in the last seven races. This season, Logano has the second-best average finish (8.9) in the eight races at 1.5-mile tracks with the 550 horsepower/aero ducts rules package.
Kurt Busch finished ninth in his first Texas start with Chip Ganassi Racing in the spring. The finish was his fifth consecutive top 10 at the track. Busch finished fourth at Kansas two weeks ago for his first top 10 at a 1.5-mile track since winning at Kentucky. It was also his fifth top 10 at a 1.5-mile track in 2019 with the 550 horsepower/aero ducts rules package.
Erik Jones has finished in the top 10 in the last four races at Texas, including three straight fourth-place finishes. He’s combined to lead 94 laps in the last two spring races. Jones has finished seventh or better in three of the last four races at 1.5-mile tracks
Chase Elliott finished sixth in this event last year for his fifth top 10 in seven starts at Texas. He led 35 laps in the spring en route to a 13th-place finish. Elliott leads all drivers with a 7.8 average finish in the eight races at 1.5-mile tracks with the 550 horsepower/aero ducts rules package.
William Byron started second and led 15 laps en route to a sixth-place finish in the spring at Texas. The finish marked his second top 10 in three starts at the 1.5-mile track. Excluding Talladega, Byron has the third-best average finish in the last five races this season with the 550 horsepower rules package.
Ryan Blaney finished 37th in the spring when a part broke after leading 45 laps. The finish snapped a streak of three consecutive top-six finishes at Texas. Blaney started from the pole in this event last year and finished second. This season, Blaney has two top 10s in the eight races with the 550 horsepower/aero ducts rules package at 1.5-mile tracks.
Kyle Busch has won three times at Texas, including one in the five races (2018 spring race) since the track was reconfigured. He led 66 laps in the spring and finished 10th for one of his five top 10s in the eight races at 1.5-mile tracks with the 550 horsepower/aero ducts rules package.
Martin Truex Jr. has finished in the top 10 in seven of the last nine races at Texas, including the last four fall races. Truex has five top 10s, including two wins, in the eight races this season with the 550 horsepower/aero ducts rules package.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has yet to finish in the top 10 in 13 starts at Texas, but has finished 12th and 11th, respectively, in the last two fall races. This season, Stenhouse has posted a 13.0 average finish in the eight races at 1.5-mile tracks with the 550 horsepower/aero ducts rules package with two top 10s.
Aric Almirola has finished in the top 10 in his last two starts at Texas. Excluding Talladega and Daytona, Almirola’s last top 10 with the 550 horsepower rules package came at Pocono in early June. His last top 10 at a 1.5-mile track came in this event in the spring.
Jimmie Johnson is a seven-time winner at Texas, including the first race on the new configuration in 2017. Johnson has finished in the top 10 in five of the eight races at 1.5-mile tracks with the 550 horsepower/aero ducts rules package, including a fifth-place from the pole at Texas in the spring.
Clint Bowyer finished second in the spring for his second top 10 in the last three races at Texas. His last top 10 in the fall race came in 2013 when he drove for Michael Waltrip Racing. Bowyer has one pole and two top 10s in the last three races at 1.5-mile tracks.
Brad Keselowski has two top 10s in the five races since Texas was repaved and reconfigured. He finished 36th in the spring after spending time in the garage for rear axle and rear gear repairs to the No. 2 Ford. Keselowski won the spring Kansas race for one of four top 10s in the eight races at 1.5-mile tracks with the 550 horsepower/aero ducts rules package.
Denny Hamlin rallied from pair of penalties to win at Texas in the spring. The win was his second top five in the five races since the track was repaved and reconfigured.
