Brad Keselowski had nothing for race winner Kyle Busch but will still proud of his team after Sunday’s Pocono 400 at Pocono Raceway.
Keselowski finished second in Sunday’s 14th race of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season. It was his seventh top-five finish in the last eight Pocono races. But even though he could not run down Busch for the victory, Keselowski still gave kudos to his team’s effort.
“I am proud of the team effort to make a lot of stage points and get a solid finish out of the day,” Keselowski said. “It was a good all-around effort, just not the playoff bonus points and win and all of that that we were looking for. Still proud of the team.”
Busch led 79 laps and even though Keselowski had a shot on the day’s final restart after a late caution came out for an incident involving Ricky Stenhouse Jr., he was not able to make up any ground on the leader. Like many drivers in Sunday’s race, Keselowski said it was difficult to pass as a byproduct of the new rules package.
“Not really. He was strong,” Keselowski answered when asked if he had anything for Busch. “He was one of the fastest cars. Not only was he one of the fastest cars but if you were a 20th place car and got into the lead today you were going to drive away. it is just the way the rules were.”
Keselowski will now focus his attention on his home track at Michigan International Speedway next week and take his runner-up run from Pocono as motivation.
“We wanted a little bit more to be able to pass everybody but you had to be so much faster that you just try to execute the best you can and hope things fall the right way,” Keselowski said. “They fell decent, just not good enough to win today.”
