Kyle Busch will lead the field to the green flag in NASCAR’s longest race after he captured the Busch Pole Award for Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Busch turned a lap of 191.836 mph around the 1.5-mile track. He earned his third pole of the 2018 season and the 30th of his career. He will shoot for his first Charlotte Cup Series win on Sunday.
“We felt pretty good,” Busch said after his run. “The guys did an amazing job in practice as we weren’t very good in practice. The boys just went to work. It’s all good because it’s pure talent, all the way around, all these guys.
“This is a race you always enjoy coming to. At Charlotte, I haven’t won here in a points-paying event I guess. It would certainly be nice to get that down here this weekend with the 600.”

Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin, Erik Jones and Brad Keselowski rounded out the top five.
Ryan Newman, Jamie McMurray, Ryan Blaney, Aric Almirola and Daniel Suarez completed the first 10 qualifiers.
Kevin Harvick will start from the rear of the field after his car failed inspection three times. His car chief, Robert Smith, has been ejected for the rest of the race weekend and Harvick will serve a 30 minute practice hold on Saturday.
Hendrick Motorsports will not have a driver starting the race inside the top 20. William Byron qualified 21st with Chase Elliott and Jimmie Johnson right behind him. Alex Bowman qualified 27th.
There will be no on track activity at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday. Cup teams will have two practice sessions on Saturday to dial their cars in for Sunday’s race.
