Ty Majeski dominated the eNASCAR Friday Night Thunder race at virtual Martinsville Speedway.
Majeski, who is renowned as one of the best in sim racing, became the fifth different winner in as many races after leading all but one of the 125 laps.
“Definitely I felt like it was long over do,” Majeski said. “I’ve always had speed but couldn’t put a whole race together. I don’t run these big cars a ton and I’ll be honest it took me a bit to find my rhythm with them and get the strategies right. I hurt myself so many times on strategy in Pro Invitational and Saturday Night Thunder races. I learned each and every week and we were finally able to put it all together tonight.
After starting from the pole, the only thing Majeski had to dodge was the nine cautions and a close incident when Stephen Leicht was trying to turn around on the frontstretch under the yellow on Lap 105.
“Track position was key and I was able to control the race,” Majeski said. “Starting out front I was able to control the restarts.”
Alex Labbe finished in the runner-up spot for the second consecutive week.
“It was pretty intense during the last couple restarts, especially the last one there,” Labbe said. “I fought hard with Donny (Lia). We were side by side and Josh (Berry) did a good job and he made his way through the field. He gave me a little bump and run and I washed up the track a little bit. Then I raced back to the checkered out of four with Josh and it was a lot of fun. It was a lot of hard racing, we had some good pace.”
Stephan Parsons was third in his first start with Donny Lia and Josh Berry rounding out the top five.
Lia and Berry battled for the second spot most of the race. Berry’s finish came after he had to battle back from contact from Anthony Alfredo. The incident took Berry from second to mid-pack on a restart with 20 to go.
“Josh was really good here tonight but unfortunately got wrecked,” Majeski said. “I felt like we were really even on speed.”
The event was the fifth and final in a series for NASCAR Xfinity Series, NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series, ARCA Menards Series, NASCAR PEAK Mexico Series and NASCAR Whelen Euro Series drivers before NASCAR returns to racing at Darlington Raceway next weekend.
Alfredo, who finished eighth after winning last weekend at Dover, posted the best average finish (9.4) among drivers that qualified for all five races. Talladega winner Landon Huffman (9.6) was next with Chase Cabre’s sixth-place finish tonight giving him an average of 10.0 in the five races.
Majeski and Berry recorded respective average finishes of 7.0 and 7.5 in four races.
