Chase Elliott’s tough luck in the Round of 8 continued on Sunday at ISM Raceway when he was eliminated in an accident on Lap 165.
After respective finishes of 36th and 32nd at Martinsville and Texas, Elliott came into the Bluegreen Vacations 500 needing a win to advance to the Championship 4. But Elliott’s hopes of moving on ended when he backed his No. 9 Chevrolet into the wall between Turns 1 and 2.
“It seemed like we cut a tire,” Elliott said. “Unfortunate, a really tough three weeks for our team.”
Elliott ran in the top five before the incident and finished second and third, respectively, in the opening stages.
“We had a decent NAPA Chevy today,” Elliott said. “It was really tough in traffic to catch guys and then pass.”
Elliott wound up finishing last, 39th, in the race and dropped three spots in the standings after the reset to 11th. He will look to end the year on a high note at Homestead-Miami Speedway where he has a 7.7 average finish in three starts.
“Hopefully Homestead goes better and we can get prepared good for next season and get a good notebook for next year,” Elliott said.
