Bubba Wallace and Alex Bowman did not see eye to eye either on track or off Sunday at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval.
The two made contact on track in Sunday’s Bank of America Roval 400, which triggered a heated feud between the two drivers that carried over after the checkered flag flew.
Bowman finished second behind Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott, a run that secured a playoff spot in the Round of 12. But after climbing from his car, Bowman sat exhausted on pit road collecting himself when Wallace confronted him first with words and then splashed him with a sports drink.
“Smooth move of playing the sick card so I couldn’t bust him in his mouth,” Wallace told NASCAR.com, still upset over the incident on lap 42 when Bowman spun him exiting the backstretch chicane.
Bowman, who had been feeling ill as early as Wednesday of last week, went to the infield care center for treatment but shared a few thoughts about what happened with Wallace.
“He probably wouldn’t have gotten wrecked if he had his finger back in the car,” Bowman said about what went down on track.
“Don’t flip me off. If you do it once, I get it, I ran into you on the first lap. That’s on me. I messed up. But don’t do three laps in a row on every single straightaway.”
As for what Wallace said to him on pit road Bowman replied, “I probably shouldn’t repeat what he said to me. Nothing classy by any means.”
