Kyle Busch’s chance to sweep the weekend at Indianapolis went up in smoke on Lap 87.
Right after completing a pit stop, Busch’s No. 18 Toyota had an engine failure on the backstretch.
"It just happened all of the sudden," Busch said. "I was leaving pit road and blending back into traffic on the backstretch. When it blew up, for some reason it knocked the brakes out of it so I couldn’t stop. All in all, just a bummer day for us."
It marked Busch’s first DNF of the season and second in 15 starts at Indianapolis.
Busch clinched the regular season championship last weekend at Darlington and was presented with the trophy before the running of today’s race.
