Denny Hamlin and Ryan Newman were both forced to backup cars in the first practice session for the Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Hamlin spun and made contact with the Turn 4 wall late in the session. He was 16th fastest in practice.
“I got loose,” Hamlin said.
“The PJ1 tightens the cars up so much from your baseline setup that you’re just spending the whole practice trying to free up and we just overstepped it there.”
Moments later, Newman made contact with the wall as he headed into Turn 3.
Per the NASCAR Rule Book, both drivers will start at the rear of the field on Sunday.
