Qualifying for Saturday night’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway was canceled due to inclement weather.
The field will be set by the rule book putting Joey Logano and Kyle Busch on the front row.
“We never made a qualifying run to really know where our single-car speed was gonna be, not that we were banking on rain or anything like that, it just played out that way,” Logano said. “We’ll take it. I’ve never had a superspeedway pole before and I don’t know if this actually counts as one or not, but I’m starting first and I’m counting it and that’s all that matters.”
This marks the first time qualifying has been canceled in 2019 and the fifth time at Daytona.
It was not raining at the time of the cancellation, but lightning was near the 2.5-mile track and had track activity on hold.
