Who’s HOT at Kansas
- Martin Truex Jr. has posted two wins, an average finish of 2.3 and combined to lead 208 laps in last four starts.
- Kyle Busch has finished in the top 10 in each of his last eight starts, including a win in the 2016 spring race.
- Kevin Harvick won this event last year for his fifth consecutive top 10, which also includes a win in the 2016 fall race.

- Aric Almirola (7.0), Kurt Busch (7.0), Clint Bowyer (8.0), Erik Jones (8.5) and Daniel Suarez (10.0) each rank in the top 10 in average finish in the two races at 1.5-mile tracks with the 550 horsepower rules package with aero ducts.
- Brad Keselowski scored a second and third-place finish with the 550 horsepower rules package with aero ducts at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Auto Club Speedway. He also won at 1.5-mile Atlanta Motor Speedway, a race that did not use the aero ducts.
- Jimmie Johnson won the pole, led 60 laps and finished a season-best fifth in the last race at a 1.5-mile track, Texas Motor Speedway.
- Alex Bowman, who has finished second in the last two races this season, has posted two top 10s in his three Kansas starts with Hendrick Motorsports.
- Keselowski, Paul Menard and Ryan Newman were able to get some track time in this week at a 1.5-mile track during a Goodyear tire test at Chicagoland Speedway.

Driver Notes – Ordered by Average Finish (Top 15) in the Last Five Races at Kansas
Martin Truex Jr. is the only driver that has finished in the top five in each of the last four races at Kansas. In that span he’s scored two wins and combined to lead 208 laps. This year, Truex has posted a 7.5 average finish in the four races at both 1.5-mile and 2-mile tracks with the 550 horsepower rules package (no aero ducts at Atlanta). He is coming off consecutive wins with the 750 horsepower rules package.
Kevin Harvick leads all drivers with three wins in the 13 races since Kansas was repaved and reconfigured to include variable banking. Harvick is the defending race winner and has combined to lead 276 laps in the last five races. This year, Harvick is tied with Kyle Busch for the best average finish (5.0) in the four races with the 550 horsepower package at both 1.5-mile and 2-mile tracks (no aero ducts at Atlanta). His 5.3 average finish in the three races at 1.5-mile tracks this season leads all drivers.
Kyle Busch is the only driver that has finished in the top 10 in each of the last seven races at Kansas, which includes a win in this event in 2016. This year, Busch has the best average finish (4.7) in the three races with the 550 horsepower package with aero ducts at both 1.5-mile and 2-mile tracks.
Alex Bowman has posted an 11.3 average finish in his three starts at Kansas with Hendrick Motorsports. Two of those finishes are top 10s with his best coming in 2016, seventh, when he subbed for Dale Earnhardt Jr. Bowman, who is coming off consecutive second-place finishes this season, has posted a 16.7 average finish with the 550 horsepower with aero ducts rules package at 1.5-mile and 2-mile tracks.
Kurt Busch has finished in the top 10 in two of the last three races at Kansas. This year for Chip Ganassi Racing, Busch has finished in the top 10 in each of the four races at either 1.5-mile or 2-mile tracks with the 550 horsepower package (no aero ducts at Atlanta). He is one of only four drivers that two top fives in the three races at 1.5-mile tracks in 2019.
Denny Hamlin has finished fifth in two of the last three races at Kansas, including this event last year. Hamlin does have a win at Kansas, but it came in the last race on the previous pavement/configuration in 2012. This year Hamlin has a win a 1.5-mile track (Texas) and has a 6.0 average finish in the three races with the 550 horsepower rules with aero ducts package, that excludes Talladega.
Austin Dillon‘s best finish at Kansas is a pair of sixth-place finishes in 2016. Since then he’s posted an average finish of 12.8. Excluding Talladega, Dillon has posted an average finish of 14.7 in the three races with the 550 horsepower package with aero ducts that includes a 10th at Auto Club Speedway.
Ryan Blaney led 54 laps last year in this event up until late-race contact that relegated him to 37th. That finish is his only finish outside the top seven in the last four races. Blaney’s only top 10 with the 550 horsepower rules package this season is fifth at Auto Club Speedway.
Joey Logano has finished in the top 10 in his last two starts at Kansas. He led 100 laps from the pole last fall en route to an eighth-place finish. Logano is a two-time winner of the fall race in 2014 and 2015. Logano does have one win at a 1.5-mile track this season – Las Vegas.
Brad Keselowski is coming off his ninth top 10 in 18 starts at Kansas. He has one win at Kansas, but that came on the previous pavement/configuration in 2011. This season, Keselowski finished first, second and third, respectively, in the first three races with the 550 horsepower rules package. The Atlanta win featured no aero ducts as part of the rules package.
Chase Elliott is coming off his first Kansas win after leading 44 laps last fall. The win was his second top five in the last three races. This season, Elliott best finish at a 1.5-mile track came at Las Vegas, ninth.
Jimmie Johnson scored his last of 17 top 10s at Kansas in the 2016 fall race, fourth. His last of three wins came in 2015 (only win on current configuration/surface). Johnson’s best finish with the 550 horsepower rules package, and only top 10, came in the last race at a 1.5-mile track when led 60 laps from the pole en route to a fifth-place finish.
Kyle Larson has finished in the top five in his last two starts at Kansas. He led 101 laps in this event last year and finished fourth. Larson finished 12th in the first three races this season with the 550 horsepower rules package. In the Atlanta race, which featured no aero ducts, he led 142 laps until a pit road speeding penalty.
Clint Bowyer finished ninth in this event in 2017 for his last of six top 10s at Kansas. Bowyer’s best finish of the season came in the last race at a 1.5-mile track, Texas Motor Speedway where he finished second. He also finished fifth at Atlanta with the 550 horsepower package that featured no aero ducts.
Erik Jones has finished in the top 10 in his last two starts at Kansas. Jones finished fourth at the last 1.5-mile track, Texas Motor Speedway – his best finish in the 11 races this season.
