Larson Uninjured in Accident

Race Recap and Results

Kyle Larson was not injured after his car rolled several times in a last lap accident during Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.

Larson, Jeffrey Earnhardt, William Byron and David Ragan got tangled up on the backstretch on the final lap of Sunday’s race. The contact sent Larson’s Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet into the inside retaining wall after it lifted off the ground sliding sideways. The results was hard impact with the Safer barrier and Larson’s car getting sent into a series of rollovers.

Finally after his mangled car came to rest, Larson climbed through the window and after being checked at the infield care center explained what happened.

“Initially I thought I was going to hit the inside wall and right before I got there, it started to lift,” Larson said. “That was probably the longest flip I’ve ever had. I just didn’t know if it would ever stop. I knew I was flipping and was just hoping I wouldn’t get any closer to the catchfence.

“It was a little bit scary, but I’m all right. Thanks to the fab shop at Chip Ganassi Racing for building safe race cars. Like I said, it was scary, but I’m just thankful I’m okay.”

The accident was the latest struggle for Larson who has had a miserable start to the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season. He entered the race 19th in the series standings and was credited with a 24th-place finish on Sunday.
