Martin Truex Jr. is trying to win a second straight Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series title and now his team is also looking for a new primary sponsor.
Furniture Row Racing announced earlier this week that 5-hour ENERGY would end its sponsorship of the No. 78 Toyota at season’s end.
“It’s not great timing with all that’s going on, but I’ve got confidence in my team and what we’re doing. Hopefully, we can find a replacement,” Truex said Friday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, preparing for Sunday’s Foxwoods Resort Casino 301. “I don’t see Barney (team owner Barney Visser) putting ‘Furniture Row’ back on the car.
“I don’t know that he can make that work anymore, so we’ll see if there’s a company out there that we can do a great job representing. Hopefully, they’ll come out and show their support shortly.”
One thing Truex doesn’t have to worry about these days is having fast racecars and being competitive. He comes into New Hampshire after winning for the fourth time this season last weekend at Kentucky Speedway and doing so in dominating fashion. Truex swept all three stages of the Quaker State 400, leading 174 laps on his way to victory.
He’s a member of the “Big Three” along with Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick, and enjoying every minute of it.
“A lot of people talk about it and especially here lately, it’s been a big topic of conversation,” Truex said. “I’m just living in the moment and trying to enjoy myself, but also staying focused and not taking it for granted. It’s hard to continue what we’ve done. I realize how much work it takes and how many people I owe it to.”
While Truex has won in other divisions at New Hampshire, a Cup Series victory remains elusive.
“I love coming up here and am trying to figure out how to get that Cup win,” he said. “I’ve led the most laps a few times in this race. But it seems like the last 75 laps or so, we’ve not been able to be in front somehow. It’s time to figure that out.”
