Bayne Makes Statement

Trevor Bayne commented for the first time about Matt Kenseth joining Roush Fenway Racing to share his No. 6 ride in 2018.

RFR announced earlier this week Kenseth would return to the organization and share the wheel of the team’s No. 6 Ford for the balance of the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season. Bayne will continue to drive the car this week in the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway and next week at Dover International Speedway. Kenseth’s first race will be on May 12th at Kansas Speedway.

Bayne was not in attendance at the press conference held on Wednesday at the NASCAR Hall of Fame but addressed the media at Talladgea on Friday morning with a prepared statement.

“First of all, my health is 100 percent,” Bayne said. “I am as fit physically, mentally, spiritually as I’ve ever been to do my job well. And the second part, my desire is, as it has always been since I was 5 years old, to come to the race track and contend for wins, championships and be a driver at the top level in the Cup Series. Nothing in that has changed. I’m still going to pursue that because I feel like I’ve got the ability to do that.”

The full details of the schedule Bayne and Kenseth will share beyond Kansas has not been released by the organization. It is believed Bayne will be the driver in the races sponsored by AdvoCare as was announced before the start of the season leaving Kenseth to pilot the car the balance of the schedule with new sponsor Wyndham Resorts.
