Jimmie Johnson led a shortened final practice session for Sunday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
The session was limited to just 22 minutes after a delay for track drying for a heavy mist that ended Xfinity Series qualifying following Round 1.
Johnson, who is a seven-time winner at Texas, posted a lap of 27.253 seconds, 198.143 mph on his final of three laps that he completed.
Kevin Harvick (197.984 mph), Daniel Suarez (197.780 mph), pole winner Kurt Busch (197.759 mph) and Martin Truex Jr. (197.614 mph) rounded out the top five.
Fourteen drivers ran 10 consecutive laps with Harvick topping that chart with an average speed of 196.904 mph.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was able to turn six laps in a back-up car in the final session after hitting the Turn 4 wall in his primary in the morning session.
Today’s two practice session were held in temperatures in the 30s. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for temps in the 60s.
