ISM Recap and Results | Driver Ratings

MRN’s Pete Pistone unveils this week’s Power Rankings following the Bluegreen Vacations 500 at ISM Raceway.

1. Martin Truex Jr. – Nothing to lose and not much to gain for Truex Jr. in Phoenix. He was locked into the Championship 4 thanks to his Martinsville win to kick off the round but still came home with a sixth-place finish as he embarks on a quest for a second career Cup title Sunday in Homestead.

Driver Rating: 102.7
Point Standings: T-1st
Previous Ranking: 1st

2. Denny Hamlin – Under the threat of elimination, Hamlin scored his sixth win of the season and with the ISM Raceway victory advanced to the Championship 4 for the second time in his career and a shot at what has been so far in his career an elusive title.

Driver Rating: 97.7
Point Standings: T-1st
Previous Ranking: 5th

3. Kyle Busch – He locked his spot in the Championship 4 with a second-place finish in Phoenix. Busch had his teammate Denny Hamlin in his sights on the final restart but couldn’t get by settling for a runner-up performance.

Driver Rating: 107.5
Point Standings: T-1st
Previous Ranking: 3rd

4. Kevin Harvick – He might not quite own ISM Raceway as he has in the past but Harvick was still strong Sunday keeping his car at the front of the field most all afternoon. Harvick knocked down a top-five finish and now moves on to the Championship 4 for the fifth time in six years.

Driver Rating: 104.9
Point Standings: T-1st
Previous Ranking: 5th

5. Joey Logano – A tale of two races for Logano on Sunday. Things started out great with Logano a major player in the early going and leading 93 laps. But a second half adjustment proved to be fatal for Logano’s hopes of running for a second straight championship as he faded back to a ninth0place finish and was eliminated from the playoffs.

Driver Rating: 98.4
Point Standings: 5th
Previous Ranking: 4th

6. Ryan Blaney – Two races at ISM Raceway and a pair of third0place finishes for Blaney who fought valiantly on Sunday. Blaney had a shot on a final restart with three laps to go but he wasn’t able to wrestle the lead away and although his finish was strong it wasn’t good enough to keep in the Playoff race.

Driver Rating: 93.6
Point Standings: 7th
Previous Ranking: 6th

7. Kyle Larson – He’s been getting much better at ISM Raceway in recent outings and Larson turned in his third straight top-10 finish Sunday with a fifth-place effort. However, it wasn’t enough to keep him alive in the championship picture and he was eliminated from the playoffs.

Driver Rating: 90.3
Point Standings: 6th
Previous Ranking: 7th

8. Brad Keselowski – He actually led three laps on Sunday but Keselowski couldn’t keep pace with the front-runners for very long. A top-10 finish after qualifying 12th pretty much summed up the Team Penske driver’s day.

Driver Rating: 95.5
Point Standings: 8th
Previous Ranking: 9th

9. William Byron – A consistent if not mediocre day for Byron in Phoenix. He qualified 18th and finished 17th but the Hendrick Motorsports driver was never really a factor on Sunday afternoon.

Driver Rating: 85.4
Point Standings: 9th
Previous Ranking: 8th

10. Chase Elliott – The disaster that was the Round of 8 for Elliott came to a crashing halt when a cut tire sent the Hendrick Motorsports driver into the wall and out of Sunday’s race. Elliott had respective finishes of 36th, 32nd and 39th in the round.

Driver Rating: 92.5
Point Standings: 11th
