KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Clint Bowyer was not pleased with Erik Jones in the final lap of Saturday night’s Digital Ally 400 at Kansas Speedway.
The two were battling for position after taking the white flag and Jones threw a block on Bowyer. That did not sit well afterward with the Kansas native who had words with Jones.
“It’s just what are you going to do, turn him right in front of the field and hurt him?” I mean, he puts you in a bad situation and I lifted for him and it cost me three spots right there,” Bowyer said after finishing fifth while Jones took third. “We should have finished second. Everybody knows that. That was dumb on his part.
“I guess that’s what he wants, to wreck in front of the field. When you’ve got a run like that, you just don’t move up. I should have just wrecked him I guess … God that pissed me off.”
Jones gave his view of the situation.
“I think it was just racing,” he said. “We’re racing hard and this package kind of leads into a lot of blocking and a lot of protecting your position. When I take the white flag, I’m not going to give up a lane to give up two, three or four spots if he would have got to the inside.”
