Johnson Finishes Boston Marathon

Jimmie Johnson completed his first Boston Marathon on Monday with a unofficial time of 3 hours, 9 minutes and 7 seconds, less than two days after finishing 12th in the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway.

Johnson averaged a pace of 7 minutes, 13 seconds per mile in the 26.2-mile event.

“That was the most challenging thing I’ve ever done, what an experience,” Johnson tweeted after the race with a video of him crossing the finish line.

Leading up to the marathon, Johnson logged close to 800 miles, according to his Strava app, of training. Johnson’s longest prior single run was 22 miles and he was averaging 80 miles a week at the peak of his training.

Johnson’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series sponsor, Ally, had approximately 100 fans stationed at mile 17 at the iconic Newton fire station to help runners and encourage Johnson to power through the “Seven Hills of Newton” and Heartbreak Hill to the finish.
