David Gravel is taking a career-high season total of 12 wins into the 57th annual Knoxville Nationals Presented by Casey's General Stores.

Gravel has won three of the last 10 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series races, including two straight at Hartford Speedway and Wilmot Raceway. The momentum couldn’t come at a better time as he seeks his first win in the prestigious event. His overall win total in 2017 ranks second only to Donny Schatz, who's won nine of the last 11 Knoxville Nationals.

"You always want to win races but to have the confidence up, everybody up beat and happy going into the Nationals, we are definitely looking forward to it," Gravel told the Motor Racing Network. "We were good there earlier in the year. Hopefully we got a good shot at it and see what we can do."

In the series' first trip to Knoxville in early June, Gravel posted two runner-up finishes. He's looking forward to returning in that same CJB Motorsports car when he takes to the track on Thursday for his qualifying night.

"It will be the car we ran earlier in the year for the two Outlaw shows, but it will have a new body and the same motor we ran there," Gravel said.

Gravel's last two wins have come in the bright orange GoMuddy.com No. 5 machine and he will carry a similar paint scheme in the Nationals.

In the last five races at Knoxville, Gravel has posted a 4.4 average finish with four top fives. He finished 10th last year in the Nationals and also scored a qualifying night victory in 2013.

Gravel's triumph in last month's Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic at Attica Raceway Park surpassed his personal season high in wins, which previously was nine set in 2016.
