CONCORD, N.C. - Sammy Swindell captured his 13th win of the season on Friday night in a thrilling A-Feature during the World of Outlaws PEAK Motor Oil World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

Sammy SwindellSwindell, who leads the series in wins this season, started second in the main event and was able to pass Brian Brown for the lead with two laps to go en route to his second career win at Charlotte.

"It's great to get a win down here," Swindell said. "I just had to be patient and I didn't want to use up the tires, but the car we worked it out just right."

The battle with Brown eventually led to Swindell's pass for the win being the eighth lead change of the race.

"We got a little close, but I think he decide to run where I was at and be in my place instead of running his own line," Swindell said. "That was just great for me, he left it open down in one end that he was slowing down so much that I was able to drive right back on by real easy. They only pay for the last lap so that's the one I want to lead."

Driving a brand new car, Swindell hopes to take some of what he learned on the track and carry it over to tomorrow night.

"We have a brand new Eagle car here and I wasn't quite right there for the start," Swindell said. "I learned exactly where to be on the race track and hopefully we can expand on that and be just a little bit quicker tomorrow night."

Brian BrownBrown was looking for his first career win with the World of Outlaws. The finish was his second runner-up (other: Knoxville Nationals) of the season and 11th top 10 in 20 starts with the series this season.

"That was a hell of race," Brown said. "To run second to Sammy it's an awesome accomplishment for everybody on this Casey's General Stores/FVP/Searsbro No. 21."

Brown had an intense battle with Dale Blaney for much of the race with the two exchanging the top spot a number of times. Blaney, who started third and led the most laps, was knocked out of the race on lap 24 when he had a right-rear tire go flat, giving the lead back to Brown.

Kraig Kinser finished third for his 21st, and third consecutive top five of the season.

"There was definitely a lot of action going on in front of me," Kinser said. "It was a fun race tonight."

Paul McMahan, Jason Johnson, Bryan Sebetto, Sam Hafertepe Jr., Jac Haudenschild, Daryn Pittman and Lucas Wolfe completed the top-10 finishers.

Sebetto was the KSE Hard Charger after moving up 13 positions in the race.

Donny Schatz, who clinched the series championship yesterday by virtue of just making his qualifying run, failed to make the A-Feature. He now leads Craig Dollansky, who finished 12th from the pole tonight, by 124 points heading into the last race of the year. Swindell is now only 14 points behind Dollansky for the second spot.

The World of Outlaws will wrap up the 2012 season tomorrow night at Charlotte.
