Stewart Wins More Than Cup

Tony Stewart knows all about winning, and it’s not just in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Along with claiming the Cup Series championship as a driver/owner, Stewart had a successful season with his USAC and World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series teams in 2011.

"Very proud," Stewart said of his drivers and teams. "Probably as close to being a father as I'm going to get for a while, and I'm pretty proud of all my kids, even though one is 50 years old and still winning races.

"I learned a lot from Joe Gibbs and how he was able to assemble the right people to do the right jobs. I feel like I've learned a very valuable lesson from him, and I think that I've been able to take that approach with every entity that we have and we have been successful and I'm proud of Chevy being on board and STP and Armor All and all of the people that have believed in the programs I've wanted to build and helped us make them successful."

Donny SchatzSchatz, driver of the No. 15 STP/Armor-All J&J, finished second in the World of Outlaws standings for the second consecutive season after he ended the year in similar fashion to Stewart’s Cup run by finishing fourth or better in the last four races, including a sweep of the World Finals in Charlotte. But even after the Outlaws season ended, Schatz continued his winning ways by finishing first in his final North American sprint car race of the season at USA Raceway (Ariz.) before grabbing another win in New Zealand at Western Springs Speedway.

"I'm going to come home for a couple weeks and then head to Australia," Schatz said. "I've got a lot of racing lined up and I'm glad we are winning right now."

Steve KinserKinser, a 20-time World of Outlaws champion, tied for the series lead in wins, with nine, with 2011 champion Jason Meyers and Craig Dollansky. The 57-year-old finished the year third in points in his second season driving the No. 11 Bass Pro Shops Maxim for TSR.

"I can’t thank everyone on the Bass Pro Shops/J.D. Byrider/Chevrolet team enough," Kinser said. "It was a great year and we’ll be back."

Levi Jones delivered Stewart his 11th and 12th championship as a USAC owner by taking the both the Silver Crown and Sprint Car titles this season. Jones ended his Sprint Car season with his third win of the year behind the wheel of the No. 20 Chevrolet/GM Performance Parts/Maxim machine.

"My car never had anything fall off it this season," Jones said. "We didn’t have any self-inflicted problems all season. We ended the year as both a winner and a champion. It doesn’t get any better than that."

Levi JonesJones is now a seven-time USAC National champion and only trails Stewart's childhood idol A.J. Foyt by three for the all-time lead.

"I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – Levi Jones is a gifted driver," Stewart said. "We’re so fortunate to have him drive for us at TSR. He came to us a champion and we’re thrilled to win another championship together.

"It’s a total team effort that starts in our shop at Brownsburg (Ind.) and continues at the track. Those guys never give up. Winning both Silver Crown and Sprint Car titles in consecutive years says so much about everyone involved. I can’t put into words how proud I am of this."

Next on the agenda for TSR is this weekend's International Motorsports Industry Show in Indianapolis. Stewart, who is an IMIS co-founder, will be focusing his attention on the event, which includes an inaugural karting race at the Conseco Fieldhouse.

"We are pretty proud of that show and I want to make sure it goes off well."
