Denny Hamlin won for the fifth time at Darlington Raceway in the NASCAR XFINITY Series in an exciting finish to Saturday's Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200.

Hamlin took the lead on an overtime restart and was then passed by Joey Logano before making a cross over move in Turn 4 to retake the lead and the checkered flag.

“I didn’t anticipate the '22' getting back to us like that, but he did and hats off to them and they didn’t have probably the fastest car, but they had great pit stops all day and put themselves in position and then I knew going down the backstretch that he was going to have inside position," Hamlin said. "It was up to me then to back up the corner, let him slide up the race track and slide back around him on the exit, so it takes a lot of patience, but glad it all worked out for us and this whole Sport Clips team.”

Hamlin's fifth win from the pole at Darlington is the second-most in the XFINITY Series at a single track; Hamlin's Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch holds the  series record for the most wins from the pole at a single track with six at Phoenix Raceway.

After leading the most laps (58), Logano had to settle for second, marking his sixth consecutive top-six finish at Darlington dating back to his win in 2012.

“Obviously, second hurts," Logano said. "We want to win every one of them and we just got out-motored. He went through the gear box and got position on me and off he went. He had me at his right-rear quarter, which allowed him to stay wide open and clear me. I thought I had a run down the backstretch. He knew what I was thinking and I knew what he was thinking. I was just hoping that I got up to the wall and was able to rotate when I got there, but I just got tight when I got there.”

Kevin Harvick, who won the first two stages, finished third. He will also start from the pole in tomorrow's Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Bojangles' Southern 500.

"It just didn’t wind up working out there at the end," Harvick said. "I wound up on the bottom and I kept my foot in it over there, got loose underneath the '20.' We weren’t the strongest for five or 10 laps and that didn’t really work out with that short run there at the end and we got stuck on the bottom.  We got loose and then we got freight-trained, but just a great car.  It wound up being a great race and that’s all you can ask for.”

Erik Jones finished fourth with William Byron coming home as the top regular XFINITY Series driver in fifth.

XFINITY points leader Elliott Sadler was involved in the final of nine cautions on lap 144 when he made contact with Erik Jones and the wall coming off Turn 4. He finished 33rd.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series now heads to Richmond Raceway on Friday, Sept. 8.
