Kyle Larson scored an overtime win in Saturday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series ToyotaCare 250 at Richmond International Raceway.

Larson was ahead of the field when he crossed the overtime line in Saturday’s race as Ryan Reed crashed behind him to bring out the caution. But because Larson was past the line the race was declared official and ended under caution.

It was Larson’s second win of the season and the seventh of his series career.

Larson inherited the lead with 10 laps to go when Ty Dillon was penalized for jumping a restart and sent to the rear of the field. The Chip Ganassi Racing driver was able to stay out front the rest of the way and had his Camaro ahead of Justin Allgaier when the race ended.

“I’m surprised I cleared Justin on two,” Larson said. “I thought he would hang on my outside or pass me. Thankfully we were able to clear him, then had the caution and I got the overtime win. We didn’t have the best car at all, Justin was by far the best.

“I’m not good at this place so to get a win is pretty neat.”

There was some confusion on what turned out to be the final lap when the caution lights went on for the Reed accident but the flag did not wave from the starter stand. But by NASCAR rules, the lights are the official indicator when caution on the track is declared.

Allgaier had a dominant car, and led 157 laps, but was forced to settle for second. However, he did win the Dash4Cash bonus of $100,000 for the second time this season.

“To win $100,000 is something we set out to do when we got here this weekend,” Allgaier said. “Unfortunately there at the end, the best car doesn’t always win the race.

“It’s just really disappointing. These guys deserved (a win). It’s very bittersweet, I’m very dejected, I’m not going to lie to you. This one hurts and it’s going to hurt for a long time.”

Daniel Hemric, Austin Dillon and Ryan Blaney rounded out the top five.

Darrell Wallace Jr., Elliott Sadler, Michael Annett, Casey Mears and Spencer Gallagher completed the first 10 finishers.

Sadler was in position to win the race when he gambled and took his last set of fresh tires on a previous pit stop just 18 laps into the last stage. Had the race gone green the rest of the way, Sadler looked like he had the field covered.

But caution did come out for a mechanical issue on BJ McLeod’s mechanical issues on the backstretch and Elliott lost the lead to others who pitted and had fresh tires waiting.

Austin Dillon and Allgaier won the first two stages.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series now heads to Talladega Superspeedway next Saturday afternoon.
