Kyle Larson held off Joey Logano to win Saturday's NASCAR XFINITY Series Service King 300 at Auto Club Speedway, his second victory at the 2-mile track.

Larson was able to make the jump on a late-race restart to keep the top spot in a four-lap dash to the checkered flag to score his sixth career NXS victory. It was his first win since Texas last November.

“The racing there at the end with Joey was awesome,” Larson said. “We just had a couple lap fresher tires than he did and was able to chase him down. I was trying to be patient.

“… It was a heck of a race. I honestly didn’t think we’d be here yesterday. I was struggling bad in practice, fought the balance a lot throughout the race, and then finally the last two runs we hit it.”

Larson had to come back from a lap 73 pit road speeding penalty to get back into position to win the race. He wound up leading four times for 21 laps.

Logano also had challenges to overcome including when his car fell off the jack during pit stop and tire change. He too had a pit road speeding penalty but Logano was able to rebound from those challenges to lead the most laps at 70 and finish second.

“We had such a fast car today just didn't execute like we needed to,” Logano said.  “Got to pass a lot of cars which was fun but ended up one short.

"I vote for two races at Auto Club Speedway. This is the perfect race track."

Kyle Busch, who won the day’s first two stages, was in the hunt late for the win but fell back late and couldn’t make a final charge to the front when he restarted fourth on the final green flag,

Erik Jones and William Byron completed the first five finishers.

Darrell Wallace, Jr., Elliott Sadler, Brennan Poole, Justin Allgaier and Ty Dillon completed the top 10.

It was a rough day for a couple drivers including Paul Menard, who made hard contact with the wall when Erik Jones clipped his Chevrolet. Menard’s car briefly caught fire but he was able to climb out uninjured.

"I don't know if he tried to push me or if he was just crossing over," Menard said after leaving the infield care center. "Definitely had a brain fart."

Cole Custer also had a hard trip into the wall after contact from Ryan Sieg. Custer’s car caught fire too but he was not injured in the incident.

“Last week it was all my fault and I’ll take that all on me,” Custer said of his celebrated incident with Austin Dillon at Phoenix. “Today it was just a clown.  I don’t understand what his reasoning was to pay us back that much, but that’s just a joke.

“I think I hit him (Sieg) a tick just on my side draft going off of four and then he decided just to hook us going into turn one and wreck us.  It is what it is, but we’ll just move on.  We had an awesome Haas Automation Ford Mustang. I thought we could have competed for a win there.  We had a bad pit stop.  We were gonna work our way back up there, but just got our day ended by a clown move.”

The NASCAR XFINITY Series takes a week off before returning to action at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday, April 8th.
