Starting in 2018, NASCAR will standardize the number of at-track individuals who work on each vehicle during a race weekend.

Rosters across all three national series - Monster Energy, XFINITY and Camping World Trucks - will be comprised of three categories: Organizational, Road Crew and Pit Crew.

For each category, the team will decide how to distribute the positions for their respective rosters. For example, a Monster Energy Series team’s Road Crew (12 team members) could be made up of a crew chief, car chief, five mechanics, two engineers and three specialists.

Each roster member will now be assigned a number/letter based on position, which must be visible at all times on both the team uniform and on armbands. All rosters will be made public before each race weekend.

The Organizational roster can include competition director, team manager, technical director, IT specialists, etc. Road crew could be crew chief, car chief, engineers, mechanics, shock specialist, tire specialist, aero specialist, spotter, engine tuner, etc.

The Pit Crew is, of course, the over-the-wall team members. In 2018, the gas man can only perform the task of fueling the vehicle.

In the Monster Energy Series, for a one- or two-car organization, three roster spots can be dedicated to those on the Organizational level. For three- or four-car teams, four roster spots can be dedicated to the Organizational level. XFINITY and Camping World Truck Series teams can assign just one team member to its Organizational roster.

Road Crews in the XFINITY and Truck Series will consist of seven and six team members, respectively.
