Rainy weather has forced Goodyear to cancel a tire test slated for Michigan International Speedway.
Danica Patrick, Martin Truex Jr. and Paul Menard were scheduled to take part in the two-day session on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. The inclement weather forced track officials to postpone it until a more suitable day can be found.
The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series has a pair of races set at the two-mile oval this season - on Sunday, June 18, and Sunday, Aug. 13.
Pit Procedure Explained
Johnny Sauter wasn’t pleased with how the opening of pit road was officiated in Saturday’s Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway, Sauter, who finished second in the alpha Energy Solutions 250, was leading the race near the end of the second stage when caution came out. Pit road wasn’t opened as he drove by.
"I was disappointed that pit road wasn’t open when I drove by and then was open for the rest of the field shortly thereafter," Sauter said. "I’m not sure what that glitch was about."
NASCAR Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer Steve O'Donnell addressed the situation on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s "The Morning Drive."
"If we had to do it over again, we'd probably do it differently," O’Donnell said. "We had every intention of going back to green for the stage. We opened pit road and were about to cycle through when there was debris found on the racetrack. So we had to go though our normal procedure and close pit road per the advertised rule of the stages.
"That was unfortunate for Johnny, something we’ll try to avoid going forward. He's right in his comments. It was a challenge, something we didn’t foresee."
