NASCAR announced an updated policy on damaged vehicles during a competition seminar at its Research and Development Center on Wednesday morning.

The new policy will be enforced in all three national series - Monster Energy NASCAR Cup, XFINITY and Camping World Trucks.

If a damaged vehicle is forced to the garage, the car/truck will not be permitted to return to the race. If a vehicle can be repaired on pit road, there will be a five-minute time limit .

Pit road repairs:

  • Body repairs are limited to the removal or reattachment of original body parts with fasteners and tape
  • Rods/supports may be used to reinforce original panels
  • New or previously unused body panels are prohibited
  • Series directors will provide teams with a list of items required for competition in advance
There also will be a 15-second time penalty for speeding on pit road or missing the commitment line. Mechanical failures can be rectified as long as they are not the result of an accident.
