Chase Elliott scored his fifth consecutive top 10 of his rookie season in Monday's rain-delayed Axalta "We Paint Winners" 400 at Pocono Raceway.
Elliott led a race-high 51 laps en route to a fourth-place finish, his fifth top five of the year to tie Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s 1979 rookie mark through the first 14 races in a season.
"We certainly had I feel like one of our best days of the year personally," Elliott said. "I thought for us to be able to contend and lead laps all day and have a car that could fight for the lead the majority of the day I thought was great."
Eventual race winner Kurt Busch used momentum to get by Elliott and his teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the final restart as the Hendrick teammates battled through the Tunnel Turn.
"Obviously I made a big mistake there behind Dale in the tunnel after that restart," Elliott said. "I wish I had been a little more patient and given ourselves a better chance, but you live and you learn."
In the last five races, Elliott, Kurt Busch and Brad Keselowski are the only drivers that have finished in the top 10 in each race dating back to Talladega Superspeedway on May 1.
“Definitely really proud of our team and the work that everybody at Hendrick has put in," Elliott said. "I felt like we had really four really fast cars today. I hope that's a good sign for races to come."
