Harvick reiterated his commitment to the team Friday morning during his media availability at Phoenix International Raceway.
“I don’t see any reason why that wouldn’t happen, why that would change,’’ Harvick said. “For me, I’m in the best position that I’ve been in with my team. I feel like I have the best crew chief in the garage. It would be pretty tough to turn around and walk out on everybody who has been a part of building everything that we’ve built so far.’’
SHR announced the organization would change from Chevrolet to Ford in 2017 and it immediately triggered rumors of Harvick’s potential departure from the team. He’s driven Chevys throughout his NASCAR career, which fueled speculation he’s seek another home when SHR transitioned to Ford.
But Harvick dismissed that scenario on Friday.
“I got a great team, I’ve got great people, I’ve got a great organization that’s wanting to win races.,” he said. “To not be committed to them would be foolish on my part."
Harvick has gotten off to a decent start to the year but by the standards he’s set the last two seasons he feels as if things are a little off. Harvick hopes that changes Sunday in the Good Sam 500 as he seeks his eighth career Phoenix win.
“We have just had a lot of circumstances,” he explained about the last two weeks, which included Harvick battling the flu at Las Vegas. “We have got to get everybody healthy and get everybody in sync, but the cars have been plenty fast. We just hadn’t been able to get everything out of them just for one reason or another over the last two weeks. It seems like everything is going fairly well to overcome the things that we have in the last two race weekends.”
Motor Racing Network - "The Voice of NASCAR" - will have live coverage of Sunday's Good Sam 500 beginning at 2:30 p.m. (ET), with live streaming at MRN.com and on the MRN App.
