NASCAR officials and Sprint Cup team owners continue to move closer to a charter system in time for the 2016 season.

Sources have reported a meeting held Friday brought the two sides closer together on a plan that would provide equity and financial stability to team owners.

Although a deal was not finalized, NASCAR did release a statement indicating negotiations are moving forward.

“NASCAR and NASCAR Sprint Cup team owners have continued to make progress in our discussions,” David Higdon, NASCAR Vice President, Integrated Marketing Communications said in the statement. “There still is work to be done, but we remain very optimistic that we’ll have agreements completed prior to the start of the 2016 season.”

A report in the “Sports Business Journal” indicated the agreement is likely to be announced in two weeks prior to the opening of the season at Daytona International Speedway. Teams are scheduled to arrive in Daytona on February 11th to begin preparation for “Speedweeks.”
