Biffle Closer to Contract Extension

Biffle’s three-year contract expires after this season.

DARLINGTON, S.C. - Greg Biffle says he’s closer to a contract extension with Roush Fenway Racing, his home since 1998.

Biffle’s three-year contract expires after this season. The 44-year-old started in the Camping World Truck Series with Roush, winning a title in 2000. He moved to the Nationwide Series and won the championship in 2002. Biffle then moved to Cup full-time in 2003 and has scored 19 wins. His most recent victory came at Michigan last June.

About his contract status, Biffle said Friday: “I think we are getting closer. There are a lot of moving parts to a contract and a lot of new people at 3M, but I know the folks are going up there next week to visit some more.

“I have a feeling it is getting closer. I know there has been a lot of activity. The program works really well for them and we have the American Red Cross on the car this weekend so it is a good program for 3M and I think they are happy. It looks like we are closing in on an announcement. Hopefully here soon we will have something.”

Teammate Carl Edwards' contract also expires after this season. Edwards, though, is saying little about his contract talks.

“I'd rather not talk about it,” Edwards said Friday. "I have no news. There's nothing to say. I promise you no drama.”

Biffle enters Saturday’s Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway 16th in the points after his season-best sixth-place finish Monday at Texas.

“We had really struggled as a team and organization even though Carl (Edwards) got a win,’’ Biffle said of Edwards’ win last month at Bristol. “We have struggled a little bit this year on speed, especially the intermediates which has been our strong suit - Las Vegas and California. We were fast right off the truck last week and had good speed, qualified good and ran good. That gave us some confidence coming here this week that hopefully we are starting to get the zero ride height and new aero package down a little more and going to be more competitive.’’
