Driver Ratings

Sunday's race at Auto Club Speedway turned out to be a challenge for several top drivers including Dale Earnhardt Jr., but his performance was good enough to return to the top of this week's Power Rankings:

1. Dale Earnhardt Jr.: He had a second straight week of struggles, but even after tire issues and a trip into the wall in the Auto Club 400, he rallied for a 12th-place finish.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 107.1
Point Standings: 2nd
Previous Ranking: 2nd

2. Brad Keselowski: A finishing position of 26th didn't tell the true story for Keselowski, who had a fast car all weekend but was hit with a series of tire issues.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 113.2
Point Standings: 4th
Previous Ranking: 1st

3. Kyle Busch: There's something about Auto Club Speedway for the younger Busch brother, who scored his third career Sprint Cup Series victory there Sunday with a last-lap pass.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 106.6
Point Standings: 7th
Previous Ranking: NR

4. Carl Edwards: Odd day for Edwards, who took over the Sprint Cup Series point lead with a 10th-place finish despite never really being a factor during the race.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 95.9
Point Standings: 1st
Previous Ranking: 3rd

5. Jeff Gordon: Looked like he might be the beneficiary of teammate Jimmie Johnson's misfortune, but he was not able to hold on to the lead and pick up the victory.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 103.2
Point Standings: 3rd
Previous Ranking: 4th

6. Jimmie Johnson: Appeared headed for another Fontana victory until a tire issue ended his day only seven laps from the scheduled finish. When's the last time Johnson experienced tire problems two weeks in a row?

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 110.5
Point Standings: 6th
Previous Ranking: 7th

7. Matt Kenseth: Started the weekend from the pole and turned in a top-five performance, adding to teammate Kyle Busch's winning effort.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 103.7
Point Standings: 5th
Previous Ranking: 9th

8. Kyle Larson: Was a star born near Hollywood last weekend? Larson followed his thrilling Nationwide Series victory with a stirring run from ninth to battle Kyle Busch for the win.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 75.5
Point Standings: 16th
Previous Ranking: NR

9. Kevin Harvick: We've seen this before. Harvick had one of the day's fastest cars only to have mechanical problems knock him from contention. It's a pattern that the Stewart-Haas Racing organization is surely tired of seeing.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 101.9
Point Standings: 25th
Previous Ranking: 5th

10. Joey Logano: Hanging on to the 10th spot of the rankings by a thread after a second straight week of mechanical issues. He has suddenly fallen on rough times after a stellar start to the season.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 100.5
Point Standings: 10th
Previous Ranking: 6th

Dropped Out: Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Denny Hamlin
