DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - While it can’t make up for their three incidents last year, Kasey Kahne got some revenge on Kyle Busch when Busch paid off a bet Saturday and wore a Seattle Seahawks jersey in the garage.
Kahne, a Seahawks fan, and Busch, a Denver Broncos fan, made a friendly wager on the Super Bowl. The loser had to wear the winning team’s jersey one day at Daytona International Speedway.
Kahne won the bet with Seattle defeating Denver 43-8 earlier this month.
The result was evident so early that Busch, who attended the game, purchased a Russell Wilson Seahawks jersey and a hat on his phone during the third quarter.
“The hat is actually is a little too big, so my head is not that big,’’ Busch joked.
Busch wore the jersey to the drivers meeting before Saturday night’s Sprint Unlimited. He wore the Seahawks hat earlier in the day, gaining approval from the Seattle Seahawks on Twitter.
The Seahawks Twitter account wrote to Busch: “Can't help but notice, but that is one fine hat you have on today. You're our second favorite @NASCAR driver this weekend.’’
Busch also wore the jersey earlier this week in Daytona and photographs of it were placed on Twitter.
“He looked pretty good in it,’’ Kahne said. “Me and Kyle had a lot of fun with it and the Seahwaks got behind it and they started tweeting stuff to him as well. I would think that they’re probably his second favorite team now. I enjoyed it. I’m glad he’s in a Seahawks jersey and I’m not in orange.’’
Busch has been to a few Super Bowls but this year’s game marked the first time he had been there to see the Broncos. He attended wore a Peyton Manning jersey. He went to the 2012 Super Bowl in Indianapolis that featured New England and the New York Giants. He wore a New England Patriots jersey to that game and they lost.
“Whatever jersey I’m wearing the team is going to lose,’’ Busch said.
Busch said he’s been a Denver fan for years. When he was about 9 years old, he got a football signed by former Denver quarterback John Elway. Busch said he still has the football.
