DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The unofficial start to the 2014 NASCAR season is here with this week’s Preseason Thunder test session at Daytona International Speedway.
Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series teams will descend on "The World Center of Racing" over the next six days and tune up for the new year of competition.
Action begins with Sprint Cup Series teams on the track Thursday and Friday. Each day will feature a pair of sessions, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1-5 p.m. (ET). Among those scheduled to take part in the two-day test are Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Joey Logano.
NASCAR has notified Cup teams that the spoiler height for the test and 2014 Budweiser Speedweeks, including the Sprint Unlimited, will be 4.5 inches, a half-inch taller than previously used. This week's test will be the first chance for teams to use the new configuration.
Nationwide Series teams will take to the 2.5-mile oval Saturday and Sunday with Camping World Truck Series drivers wrapping up the test on Monday and Tuesday of next week.
Preseason Thunder Fan Fests are scheduled for Thursday, for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, and Saturday, for Nationwide; scheduled from 5:30-9:30 p.m. each day. Tickets, available at the gate, are $25 apiece for the Cup session and $10 for Nationwide. Children 12 and under are free both days.
MRN.com will be trackside during the test to bring you all the latest Preseason Thunder coverage and breaking NASCAR news.
