The fifth round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup at Charlotte Motor Speedway headlines the racing weekend with the Nationwide Series, Whelen Southern Modified Tour, K&N Pro Series West and World of Outlaws Sprint Cars also in action.
Saturday night’s Bank of America 500 in Charlotte marks the halfway point of this year’s post-season Chase. Matt Kenseth clings to a three-point lead over Jimmie Johnson going into the race with Kevin Harvick, last week’s Kansas Speedway winner, third only 25 points out of the top spot.
Harvick is looking for back-to-back series wins as well as a sweep of Charlotte in 2013 after the Richard Childress Racing driver’s Coca-Cola 600 victory in May.
Jeff Gordon won the pole for Saturday night’s race with a lap of 27.791 seconds, 194.308 mph in Thursday's qualifying session. Also on Thursday night in Charlotte, Burt Myers was victorious in the Whelen Southern Modified Tour UNOH Southern Slam 150.
On Friday night, the NASCAR Nationwide Series races under the lights in Charlotte as the Dollar General 300 takes center stage. Austin Dillon took over the series lead last week in Kansas and has an eight-point advantage over Sam Hornish Jr. Friday's race is scheduled for a 7:45 p.m. ET start.
Then on Saturday, the focus returns to the Sprint Cup Series championship battle for the Bank of America 500, which will take the green flag at approximately 7:45 p.m.
