DOVER, Del. _ Kurt Busch says he and his team “need to attack’’ in the Chase, and he will do so with four new pit crew members Sunday at Dover International Speedway.
Busch’s pit crew has been inconsistent and a source of frustration for the driver for much of the season.
Busch needs something dramatic to happen. He enters the AAA 400 seventh in the standings, 40 points behind series leader Matt Kenseth.
“We need to attack, we can’t let those Gibbs guys get too far ahead,’’ Busch said. “Last week, we finished 13th, that’s not going to get it done in the Chase.’’
Busch’s team, which has a technical alliance with Richard Childress Racing, will use four RCR Nationwide pit crew members Sunday.
Josh Sobecki will be the new rear tire carrier. He comes from Austin Dillon’s Nationwide team and replaces Arthur Simmons.
The other three new pit crew members come from Brian Scott’s Nationwide team at RCR.
Brian Gainey is the new jackman, replacing Andrew Turner. Jake Lind is the new rear tire changer, replacing Kenyatta Houston. Thad Wymer is the new front tire carrier, replacing Mike Houston.
The only two pit crew members unchanged are gasman Milan Rudanovic, who joined the team this summer, and Matt Humphries, who is a member of Scott’s Nationwide team and joined Busch’s pit crew two weeks ago at Chicago.
Busch said all areas need to be addressed to have a chance at the title.
“We have to find all the speed we can in the car and not give up any,’’ Busch said. “Last week we gave up speed by changing quite a few things on Saturday night, trying to change our car from a sixth-place car to a winning car. We turned it from a sixth-place car to a 13th-place car.’’
Motor Racing Network - "The Voice of NASCAR" - will have live coverage of Sunday’s AAA 400 beginning at 1 p.m. (ET), with live streaming at MRN.com.
