CORNELIUS, N.C. – An MRI has confirmed a fracture and sprain of Martin Truex Jr.’s right wrist, suffered in an accident during Saturday's race at Bristol.
Doctors have fitted Truex with a special cast he’ll wear indefinitely, which will enable him to better grip the steering wheel and compete in Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Truex has been cleared to race by NASCAR.
A multi-car crash collected Truex 52 laps from the finish of Saturday's IRWIN Tools Night Race, sending the No. 56 Toyota into the outside wall. MWR has yet to determine if a stand-by driver is needed for this coming weekend to assist with driving duties.
Truex is 14th in points and holds one of two available Wild Card berths for the Chase heading into the final two races of the regular season.
