Car owner Felix Sabates called Kenny Wallace a “complete moron and idiot’’ on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio for comments Wallace made Friday about his team on the satellite radio channel.
Sabates, part owner of Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, also claimed that Wallace had a “vendetta’’ against him because Sabates fired Wallace in 1993.
Wrote Wallace on Twitter: “My response to Ricky Ricardo, I mean Felix Sabates; “I am surprised Felix thinks enough of ME to respond to ME’’
Wallace returned to Twitter Saturday morning to announce a truce with Sabates. Wallace wrote: "FELIX SABATES and I just had a talk, We will HUG each other at Richmond.''
Friday’s feud started when Wallace discussed Earnhardt Ganassi Racing’s announcement that it had signed 21-year-old Kyle Larson to drive for the team in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Seies next season.
“It’s hardly a top-15 car, let’s be honest, I’m not even being mean here,’’ Wallace said on “Sirius Speedway’’ on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. “Let’s look at Juan Pablo right now, let’s look at Jamie McMurray and let’s give all them the benefit of the doubt. They are hardly top-15 cars as it is.
“So to say, hey, can you contend for a win, hell, they hardly contend for wins. There’s a theory that this is a top-notch Cup team. Well, it’s not. It’s not. Yes, it contends every once in a while. I wouldn’t put Ganassi in the same batches as Hendrick and Penske and Roush. They’re just not. They don’t even build their own motors. That’s just my opinion.’’
Sabates said that Wallace still blames him for firing Wallace.
“Yeah, I fired him because he’s not a very good racecar driver and he’s not,’’ Sabates said on SiriusXM NASCAR. “It was a business decision. People like that that run their mouth and try to hurt other people, there are 175 (people) on the race team that listen to these shows every day and for Kenny Wallace to say what he said, he’s just despicable. Forget about me. I don’t care what he says about me because I don’t like him, he don’t like me.
Sabates, who was not at Atlanta Motor Speedway, said if he would have been at the track after hearing Wallace’s comments, he would have “gone over and kicked his (rear).
“There is no reason for a professional, supposed-to-be unbiased person in the media to take shots at somebody that puts as much time, as much effort and as much money as we put into this race team,’’ Sabates told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. “He’s done this more than one time. He’s just a complete moron and idiot. The kid Larson is in the same Nationwide Series that Kenny drives for today. Kyle Larson is eighth in the points. I don’t think Kenny has had two top-10 finishes. With the experience that he has had he should be winning every race and he hasn’t won anything in 15-20 years.’’
Wallace has run only five Nationwide races this season. He has nine career Nationwide victories with the last in 2001.
