SONOMA, Calif. _ Karsyn Elledge, the 12-year-old niece of Dale Earnhardt Jr., will drive a pink No. 3 Mini Outlaw Kart with sponsorship from Nickelodeon this summer.
Elledge, is the daughter of Kelley Earnhardt-Miller, general manger of JR Motorsports, and NASCAR winning crew chief Jimmy Elledge.
She will carry on the tradition of the No. 3 car, made famous by her late grandfather Dale Earnhardt Sr., as she races primarily in the West this summer.
“I didn’t get to meet him,’’ she said Saturday at Sonoma Raceway. “I’ve only heard how great it was. I’m very proud to carry on the number.’’
Her father is comfortable with this type of racing.
“I felt like it was safe with the full containment seats and the roll cages and the wing and I thought it was going to be able to teach her about sportsmanship, competing and just life in general,’’ Jimmy Elledge said.
He said his daughter has about 25 races left remaining this season. She’s leading the points in her division in North Carolina.
As for Karsyn Elledge’s future hopes?
“If this whole racing thing doesn’t work out, which it probably will, but if it doesn’t, I would like to be an actor or singer, but I want to race Nationwide and Sprint Cup some day,’’ she said.
