NASCAR announced Tuesday that Penske Racing’s appeal will be heard at 9 a.m. May 1 at the NASCAR R&D Center in Concord, N.C.

NASCAR penalized the Penske Racing teams of Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano for failing to have all suspension components approved before being used. The infraction was discovered in inspection before the April 13 race at Texas Motor Speedway.

NASCAR fined Keselowski’s crew chief Paul Wolfe $100,000, suspended him for six Sprint Cup points events (and the Sprint All-Star race) and placed him on probation until Dec. 31. Car chief Jerry Kelley, team engineer Brian Wilson and team manager Travis Geisler also were suspended for six Sprint Cup points events (and the Sprint All-Star race) and placed on probation until Dec. 31.

Logano’s crew chief, Todd Gordon, was fined $100,000, suspended for six Sprint Cup points races (and the Sprint All-Star race) and placed on probation until Dec. 31. Car chief Raymond Fox and team engineer Samuel Stanley also were suspended for six Sprint Cup points races (and the Sprint All-Star race) and placed on probation until Dec. 31.

NASCAR penalized Keselowski and Logano 25 driver points and each team 25 car owner points.

Those suspended are eligible to continue working at the track until the appeal is heard, thus they all will be at Richmond International Raceway this weekend. The points have been deducted, dropping Keslowski to third in the season standings, 38 points behind series leader Jimmie Johnson. Logano is 20th, 53 points behind 10th-place Paul Menard for the final automatic Chase spot.

The appeal will be heard by The National Stock Car Racing Appeals Panel. Three people among the 44 members will be selected to hear the appeal.

The case can be appealed to the National Stock Car Racing Chief Appellate Officer. John Middlebrook, a former General Motors executive who retired in 2008.

Joey Logano said Tuesday that the team is looking at its options should it lose its appeal next week.

“We’re in the beginning stages of trying to figure out what we’re going to do as a plan,’’ Logano said. “It just all depends on how our appeal goes. We’ve got to be ready for whatever happens. We’ve got a little bit of time to figure that one out and focus on Richmond right now. Todd will be there and we’ll have our team there and try to capitalize on what we’ve got. Last week was really tough. When you go from ninth to 20th in the points it’s a tough one to swallow. Hopefully, we can win this appeal and get our points back.’’
