NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France said Monday during an interview on FOX Business that Brad Keselowski will not be fined for his post-race comments at Texas Motor Speedway.
Keselowski unleashed an angry tirade against NASCAR after he and teammate Joey Logano had parts from the rear ends of their cars confiscated during pre-race inspection Saturday.
"No, we're not," France said when asked if NASCAR was going to fine Keselowski. "That's the beauty of NASCAR. We do allow drivers to express themselves in that way, even if they say things we disagree with. I would certainly disagree with everything he said but look, they are frustrated. This is the most intense racing in the world and not surprising that every once in a while, when things don't go your way, you just sort of blow off a lot of steam."
No fine will be handed down for Keselowski's comments - that included some expletives - because they weren't targeted toward the racing product. Last month, Denny Hamlin was fined $25,000 for post-race comments that were characterized as "disparaging remarks" about the on-track competition during the Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.
"The line we draw is that you can't criticize the racing product," France said. "You can criticize our decisions and you can criticize everything else, which is more than any other sport might allow. But just don't go talking about our racing product (not being) the best in the world because it is."
