Kyle Busch won the sixth annual Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown on Thursday night at Richmond International Raceway.

Driving a chassis built by his Kyle Busch Motorsports team, Busch captured his third career win in the special event and first at RIR. Busch won in 2008 and 2009 when it was held at Southside Speedway.

"I can't say enough about all these guys on this whole AMF team,” Busch said. “Everybody from Kyle Busch Motorsports who dug in and helped put this thing together. It was a total company effort.

"This is a fun race. We love participating in it. We thank Denny for the opportunity. It's for a great cause."

David Ragan, Ben Rhodes, Ronnie Bassett Jr. and Garrett Campbell rounded out the top five.

"We just missed it by a little," Ragan said. "Kyle's car was just a little bit better than us after 10 laps or so on the tires. Just missing a few things, but not a bad showing for our first trip out here.

"It was good to get out here with some of these young kids that are trying to prove themselves. Hopefully they learned a few things. I certainly learned a few things. We had a good time."

David Garbo Jr., Dillon Bassett, Anderson Bowen, Jeremy Burns and Kyle Larson completed the first ten finishers.

It was a rough night for a few Sprint Cup stars that were in the field including Tony Stewart, who after spinning was collected by a slower car in a hard crash that knocked the three-time Cup champion from the race.

Matt Kenseth spun out when he tried to get around C.E. Falk, after the duo rubbed fenders for a number of laps.

Michael Waltrip was also involved in an accident with Max Papis, although Waltrip wasn’t initially sure who was behind the wheel of the No. 33 entry.

“I don't know who drives the 33, but he's dumb,” said Waltrip. “We probably ought to raise some money for the 33, because he needs help."

When informed it was Papis, Waltrip gave a sheepish reply.

"Oh......I wouldn't have been so mean!" he said.
