Carl Edwards will not be leaving Roush Fenway Racing for the Penske Racing No. 22 ride in 2013.

Edwards categorically denied the rumors during Wednesday's national media teleconference that he would take over the Shell/Pennzoil sponsored entry next season when the Penske team moves to the Ford stable.

"I guess there’s a lot of talk about me driving the 22 car next year,” Edwards said to reporters. “I just want everybody that’s on the call, the media to know, that’s impossible.

“First of all, I haven’t discussed that ever with anyone at Penske and, two, I’m contracted to drive the 99 car. I’m very excited about next season. That’s what’s happening in case anybody wants to know. … I will be driving the 99 car next year, for sure."

Edwards also said the speculation he could opt out of his Roush contract should he fail to make the Chase was also false.

"But I don't ever talk about specifics of my contract with the media," said Edwards. "I think those are private contracts. I think there's even a line in there that says I can't talk about specifics of my contract and neither can other folks.

"No, I don't want to talk about any of those specifics. But truly, I can tell you this, I will be driving the 99 Fastenal Ford next year. I've never explored the option of driving the 22 car."
