SPARTA, Ky. – Team owner Joe Gibbs did not confirm speculation about Matt Kenseth joining his race team next season but has signed Denny Hamlin to a contract extension.

A published report earlier in the day had Hamlin signing a new contract to keep him in the No. 11 Toyota beyond the end of his current deal.

"It doesn't have anything to do with FedEx. It's just Denny,” Gibbs said. “I'm not saying that's done, but tonight you might hear a few things."

However later Saturday evening, Hamlin confirmed he had agreed to a contract extension.

"Happy to know where my future is," Hamlin posted on Twitter. "Excited for tonight and beyond with my team."

But as for how many cars his team will field next year and whether Kenseth will drive either the Home Depot No. 20 or a fourth Sprint Cup entry, Gibbs didn’t shed any light on the subject.

“I don't have anything to talk about other than we are trying to extend Joey so that's a big focus for us right now,” said Gibbs. "I think there is the possibility for us of being either three or four. It's been that way for a couple years, but that's what we're kind of working through now."

Gibbs also addressed the engine woes that have plagued his teams this year on both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series including Hamlin and Brian Scott's motor going sour in Friday night’s Feed the Children 300.

"We're really concerned about that,” he said. “They are taking the motors out right now and I'm waiting on a phone call. We've got everybody we've got focused on it. This is a different issue than what we've had in the past. It's a serious thing for us and right now we've got to find a solution here."
