Kurt Busch will stay in the Phoenix Racing No. 51 Sprint Cup Series seat after team owner James Finch released a statement on Tuesday.

Finch said after Busch's suspension by NASCAR for threatening a reporter on pit road following the Dover Nationwide Series race he planned to have a "come to Jesus meeting" to decide the driver's fate.

After the two met, Finch and the team released the following statement:

“We have met with Kurt. At the end of the day, we are racers so we’re going racing together with Kurt and the No. 51 Phoenix Racing Chevrolet. We know adjustments have to be made but how we fix that is between Kurt and myself. We’re going to go to the track, work hard, race hard and work on trying to attract a sponsor – and we’re going to do that together.”

Busch was placed on suspension by NASCAR after his outburst toward The Sporting News reporter Bob Pockrass on pit road after finishing fifth in the Dover Nationwide Series race.

"It refrains me from not beating the s--- out of you right now because you ask me stupid questions,'' Busch snapped at the question of whether being on probation impacted his driving style.

Finch put Tommy Baldwin Racing regular David Reutimann in the No. 51 ride this past weekend at Pocono while Busch served his suspension. The team owner promised last week he planned to meet with Busch to decide their fate together as soon as possible.

“We're going to meet the next week and have a come-to-Jesus meeting,” Finch said to SIRIUS/XM NASCAR Radio. "I don't want to give up on the talent Kurt has. He's one of the best drivers there. He's got some problems he needs to work through, and hopefully he can do that. If he can't, then I've got to go forward."

Terms of Tuesday's agreement were not released but Finch has said earlier he would take things slowly if Busch remained his driver.

“We've got to get Kurt in the right frame of mind,” Finch said. “He needs to either get his mind right or he's going to be working somewhere else. If we stay together, it will be on a race-by-race basis."
