Kenseth on Whirlwind Week

Matt Kenseth has been on a non-stop tour of the country since winning Monday night’s Daytona 500.

Just a few hours after Kenseth took the checkered flag in the rain-delayed race, he was whisked off on a jam-packed itinerary of activities that has already taken him to Dallas, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

“I haven't gotten much sleep yet, honestly,” Kenseth says.  “I got a little bit after the race but not much.  We spent most of the day in Daytona (Tuesday), then went to Dallas, hung out with my buddy (Texas Motor Speedway President) Eddie Gossage, went to the Mavericks game then flew on to L.A."

The blur of the schedule has even confused Kenseth on what he’s done and where he’s yet to go before catching back up with the series for this weekend’s SUBWAY Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.

“We did a morning show out here,” Kenseth said from Los Angeles.  “We did some radio call-ins, went to Pink's Hot Dog Stand and other stuff for Auto Club Speedway.  We taped a short segment on the Jay Leno show, did ESPN SportsCenter after that and then flew to San Francisco.”

Before he made it to the West Coast, Kenseth’s time in Dallas did include media interviews around the market before an appearance with the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Arena.

Before the game, Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle presented Kenseth with a basketball autographed by the defending NBA champions.  Kenseth gave the coach a Daytona 500 championship cap from the Victory Lane celebration early Tuesday morning.

Through it all, Kenseth says he’s enjoying the post-Daytona victory celebration and taking part in the variety of activities ... but will be ready to get back to work in Phoenix when the weekend arrives.

"Right now, I'm tired,” he said.  “Hopefully, I'll be able to get caught up a little bit on my sleep.  It's okay.  I know the guys are ready for Phoenix.  We didn't race there too long ago.  Got some stuff we're looking over, getting ready for it, been talking to (crew chief) Jimmy (Fennig).  I'm not too worried about that.

“The schedule is not too bad this week in Phoenix, anyway.  I think I'll have plenty of time to get caught up and definitely be ready to get in the car Friday.”
