Martin Truex Jr. won the pole at his home track when he turned the fastest lap in qualifying for the AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway.

Truex Jr. turned a lap of 159.004 mph to put his Michael Waltrip Racing NAPA Toyota on the top spot for Sunday’s third race of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

The New Jersey native considers “The Monster Mile” his home track and is hoping to turn his pole starting spot into his second career Sprint Cup win. His other victory came at Dover in June of 2007.

“We worked through a lot of things yesterday in practice,” said Truex Jr., who won his sixth career pole. “Hopefully tomorrow we can put it all together.”

Kurt Busch will start outside the front row in the Penske Racing Shell/Pennzoil Dodge.

Paul Menard, Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch rounded out the front five.

Jimmie Johnson, AJ Allmendinger, Bobby Labonte, Kasey Kahne and Greg Biffle completed the first 10 qualifiers.

Mike Skinner failed to qualify for Sunday’s race.

Series point leader Tony Stewart, who has started the Chase with back-to-back wins, will start 28th. Other Chase drivers in the starting lineup include Denny Hamlin (11th), Brad Keselowski (15th), Matt Kenseth (18th), Ryan Newman (20th), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (21st), Kevin Harvick (22nd) and Jeff Gordon (34th).

MRN Radio’s live broadcast of Sunday’s AAA 400 will be on the air at 1 p.m. (ET).
